HAVEN in Lee County is excited to announce that the 2018 No Scare Fair will take place on October 27, 2018, held at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center for the first time to accommodate the growing popularity of the event.
Almost 2,000 people enjoyed last year’s event at the Stevens Center, and the increased demand led to a change of venue. More than 2,200 people are expected to attend this year.
The 2018 edition will be the 17th annual No Scare Fair. The event is geared toward children ages 2-10, but all ages are welcome to participate and wear their favorite non-scary costume.
Tickets, which will cost $6 each, will go on sale by October 1 and will be available at Piggly Wiggly, 2412 S. Horner Blvd., Sanford. HAVEN staff and volunteers have already begun collecting candy for the event.
Kym Weathers Smith, volunteer coordinator for HAVEN and No Scare Fair organizer, said, “It’s our largest fundraiser, and the event is a true representation of Lee County. It brings everybody together. It doesn’t matter which political party you belong to, which high school you went to, how much money you make. You don’t see this much diversity in Lee County at one place very often. It also helps raise awareness for how serious domestic violence and sexual assault is and supports the work we do at HAVEN.”
Event times will remain the same: 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit HAVEN’s work to benefit the organization’s efforts to support survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.
