In 2003, HAVEN was chosen to participate in a pilot program – run in conjunction with the North Carolina Office of Disabilities – to initiate the “Access for All” project. Through this project, HAVEN up-fit both its office and shelter to fully handicapped-accessible buildings, thus making the locations welcoming to persons with disabilities.
In 2002, the North Carolina Office of Family Violence Prevention and Services selected HAVEN as one of five groups to develop pilot projects to tackle the problem of elder abuse. HAVEN staff members participated in establishing state protocols for addressing and dealing with the complex problems involved in elder abuse. Today HAVEN’s staff continues to address the specific needs of victims of elder abuse.
